Strengthening Youth Workers to Address Online Intimacy Challenges

The project empowers youth workers to address the challenges of young people’s intimate interactions online by providing knowledge, tools, and resources to promote safe, respectful, and informed digital relationships.

🎯 Objectives

The project aims to enhance youth workers’ ability to address the unique challenges of young people’s intimate interactions online. By focusing on the digital dimension of relationships, it will equip professionals with the knowledge and tools to navigate these sensitive topics. This approach will allow youth workers to engage more effectively with young people, fostering dialogue that supports healthy online practices while addressing risks linked to online intimacy.

In addition to enhancing their knowledge, the project will provide practical resources that youth workers can apply in their daily work. These tools will enable professionals to confidently guide young people through potential online risks, such as fraud, personal data theft, and intimate exposure. With these skills, youth workers will be better prepared to create safer, more positive online environments where young people can develop respectful and cautious relationship habits.

🔑 Key Objectives

Create a Safe and Open Environment – Establish a secure and transparent space where youth workers can freely discuss the difficulties, needs, and concerns related to online intimate relationships. This fosters mutual trust and understanding.

Deconstruct Harmful Beliefs – Critically analyze and challenge misleading narratives surrounding romantic and sexual relationships held by young people and youth workers. Encouraging a shift toward healthier, safer behaviors.

Guide Youth Workers on Online Safety – Develop long-term non-formal educational tools, including an online handbook and video guide, to provide essential guidance for youth workers and young people on:

⚖️ Raising awareness of legal, social, and emotional risks – Helping youth workers educate young people on the consequences of unsafe online behaviors in intimate contexts, including exploitation and cyberbullying.

🛡️ Identifying online threats – Recognizing identity theft, personal data breaches, and online fraud.

🚨 Understanding risks of intimate exposure – Addressing issues such as sexting, image sharing, revenge porn, and the influence of artificial intelligence.

🔑 Implementing preventive measures – Equipping youth workers with strategies to prevent and respond to cyber threats.

📅 Activities

The project consists of two key phases, ensuring effective planning and impactful implementation:

🔹 📌 APV (Advance Planning Visit) – One representative per partner NGO will participate in this preparatory meeting. It ensures a balanced representation of all participating countries and allows for:

Presenting the project’s timeline, schedule, and venue, ensuring all partners are well-prepared for the main implementation phase.

Exchanging detailed information on participant profiles.

Establishing an inclusive and thoughtful approach to sensitive topics related to online intimate relationships.

🔹 🎓 Implementation Phase – This phase will involve 5 participants per country (aged 18-30) in interactive sessions designed to explore the complexities of online relationships. Through hands-on learning, youth workers will acquire practical skills and tools to enhance their work with young people on digital intimacy issues.

🔹 🤝 Inclusion and Equal Access – The project prioritizes participants with fewer opportunities, ensuring diverse representation. This includes individuals from:

  • Groups underrepresented in professional development opportunities.
The project will create an inclusive learning environment where all participants can grow and gain valuable knowledge.
  • Socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Communities with limited access to educational resources.
